“United for a VAW-Free Philippines”

November 25, 2025 | 8:00 AM–12:00 PM | PCCCANHS Covered Court

President Corazon “Cory” C. Aquino National High School joined the nationwide observance of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) on November 25, 2025, with the theme “United for a VAW-Free Philippines.”

The event opened with a community parade around the Maricaban area, actively participated in by Barangay Officials, SPTA Officers, School Administrators, Teachers, and Students, demonstrating unity in raising awareness and standing against gender-based violence.

The formal program commenced with a prayer, the singing of the National Anthem, and the Pasay City March.

Highlighting the Call for Unity and Protection

In her Welcome and Opening Remarks, Mrs. Maria Elena T. De Ocampo, Head Teacher III (English Department), speaking on behalf of School Principal Mr. Michael C. Artoza, underscored the importance of collective responsibility in protecting women and children. She emphasized that the campaign is not merely an event but a steadfast promise—that in every home, barangay, and school, women and children deserve safety, dignity, and respect.

Following this, Dr. Marizan T. Tapel, Master Teacher I and GAD Coordinator, delivered the Rationale of the campaign. She highlighted that despite strong Philippine laws such as RA 9262, RA 7610, RA 11313 (Safe Spaces Act), and RA 9710 (Magna Carta of Women), incidents of VAWC persist. She emphasized the need for heightened public awareness, community involvement, and strengthened protective mechanisms to fully safeguard women and children.

Guest Speaker’s Message: Understanding the Law and Empowering Communities

Guest Speaker Police Staff Sergeant Jill S. Clave, introduced by Mrs. Consuelo A. Eusebio, presented an informative discussion on VAWC, focusing on the rights and legal protection of women and children.

She explained key laws, including:

  • RA 9262 – Protects women and their children against physical, emotional, sexual, and economic abuse by a partner or former partner.

  • RA 11648 – Raises the age of sexual consent from 12 to 16, strengthening children’s protection against abuse and exploitation.

  • RA 7610 – The “Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act,” safeguarding children from all forms of abuse in both home and community settings.

PSSG Clave reminded students, especially young girls, to remain vigilant, avoid unsafe online platforms such as dating apps, practice self-control, and listen to trusted adults for guidance and safety.

Open Forum and Community Commitment

The Open Forum, facilitated by Mrs. Erlinda M. Aligonero, Master Teacher I (AP Department), provided a meaningful opportunity for students and teachers to seek clarification and express concerns. PSSG Clave responded with insight and encouragement, further enriching the discussion.

Following this, participants proceeded to the Signing of the Commitment Wall, where Department Heads, Master Teachers, SPTA Officers, Teachers, and Club Officers pledged their support to end VAWC and uphold a safe and respectful community.

A Call to Action

In his heartfelt Closing Remarks, Mr. Jay-R Cachuela reminded everyone that the 18-Day Campaign does not conclude with the end of the program—it marks a renewed beginning. He emphasized that every woman and child deserves a life free from fear and violence, and that creating safe spaces is a shared responsibility. He called on teachers, parents, students, and leaders to move forward with compassion, courage, and unity.

The program was smoothly facilitated by Ms. Beviene P. Limsipson, who served as the Master of Ceremonies and extended gratitude to all participants for their active involvement.
