In adherence to Division Memorandum No. 768 s. 2023 issued last May 17, 2023; titled Conduct of 2023 Division Science and Technology Fair (DSTF) and dubbed as: SCIEN-TERRIFIC COMBAT. The Science and Technology celebration is an annual activity in school, division, region and in national level that DepEd Pasay continued its quest to offer teachers and learners an avenue to hone their knowledge and skills in science.
The Science Department conducted a face-to-face training to all the participants for the upcoming DSTF 2023 to ensure that learners are trained, mentored, and guided as they compete for their respective categories.
This activity aimed to encourage learners to expand their scientific abilities while they are engaged in various activities and to promote learners’ interest and appreciation of Science by participating in different contests, to provide learners with opportunities to work in team to achieve a common goal and to recognize learners who exhibit exemplary performance in the competition.
The objectives of this program were stated as follows:
- To cultivate the interest of the youth in Science.
- To provide awareness on environmental issues and concerns.
- To provide opportunities for students to develop scientific skills.
- To give recognition to students with exceptional abilities in science.
- To build an avenue for a community of healthy, competitive, and intellectual interactions.
The program held at Andres Bonifacio Elementary School (ABES) covered court last June 10, 2023. Registration of the participants (teachers and learners) started at 7:30 and continued up to exactly 8:00 in the morning. Each contest category was announced during the program:
- The Poster Making Contest was held at the first floor for Elementary and Secondary Level and each participant was given coloring materials from the sponsor. Our representative was Kateiszha Chloe M. Salvador of Grade 9 who showcase her talent in drawing and blending of colors.
- Sci-Quiz Bee was held at 2nd floor Grade 3 to Grade 12 simultaneously happening after the program. Each school has our participant for each grade level. For our school are representatives were the following: Grade 7 Juan Miguel M. Toribio at 4th Place, Grade 8 Cherryline N. Andres at 3rd Place, Grade 9 Rysa M. Balena who become 1st Place at the end of the sci-quiz bee, Grade 10 Jam Kerby C. Borabo who at the 4th Place, Grade 11 John Gabriel S. Rodriguez at 3rd Place, and for Grade 12 Healer Wind P. Custodio.
- Science Concept Quick Share was held at 2nd floor but before the contest started, there was an orientation given to the coaches and participants regarding the changes to some rules. Our participants are from Grade 11, Maclyn Jill Examen, Arieza Mae Mendaros, and Lawrence Sebastian Rondez who became 3rd Placer at the end of the contest.
- STEMazing was held at 2nd floor for the proposal making for 3 hours and to library of the school during the presentation of the output and another room as contained area while waiting for their turn for the presentation. Our participants for this contest were from Grade 11 composed of Jian Kheven M. Ambao, Klein Gabriel R. Caparro, and Kyra Monique L. Lumaas who gives their best in creating their best research proposal and powerpoint presentation and show their skills in critical thinking by answering all the questions coming from the judges from the DOST.
- Science Photo Essay Contest event room was held at 3rd floor each participant should bring their photo printed in A4 size, each participant was given 1 bond paper with marked so that the judges can testify that the essay was made during the contest hour and not made ahead of time. Our participant was Bridget Kyla C. Pasaporte of Grade 11 who happened to win 2nd place.
- Interactive Booth for Wonder of Science was held at covered court of the school each cluster have 6 representative learners, 2 participants per school under a particular cluster to demonstrate and discuss the science concept behind their games or interactive games. Though our cluster doesn’t win the most interactive games, our learners showed their skills by discussing the concept behind the popular “Lato-Lato” game, the judges and other school principals gave complements to them.
With the achievement of the learners who participated in the different contest we can say that this was also our school achievement which give significance to the knowledge and skills of our learners that we can compete with other school regular or special science school. -Jellie DC. Surbida
